What is Reiki
Reiki is the transmission of universal life energy. This vital energy exists abundantly in nature and in the universe, and people can transmit it through the hands and in other ways.
What Reiki Really Is
Let us begin from the beginning: Reiki is the transmission of universal life energy. It is a Japanese holistic energy technique in which the ability to channel vitality is received or strengthened through special attunements. These attunements are given in each of the three Reiki training degrees, allowing the flow of life energy to become stronger in the practitioner. After the first degree, a person can practice Reiki for themselves and for others.
What Reiki is NOT
- A religion or sect
Reiki is not a religion or sect. It is an alternative holistic healing technique based on the life energy found in nature. Although Reiki may have spiritual dimensions, it has no fixed dogma, ritual system, or religious framework. People of all religions, philosophies, and backgrounds can learn Reiki and integrate it into their lives.
- Something Opposed to Religion or Scripture
Religion and scripture do not oppose healing ability, self-healing, healing touch, or the life energy of nature. People experience Reiki as deep relaxation, psychosomatic care, harmony, and often love.
- An organization, group, or anything similar
There is no central authority, ideology, hidden group, or secret framework behind Reiki. It is a pure, human, and beautiful healing art.
- A spiritualistic treatment
Reiki differs from spiritualistic healing because it is based on the simple flow of energy and does not require rituals, invocations, or esoteric knowledge. Reiki itself is neutral, pure, natural, and simple.
- Something especially difficult
Even children can learn Reiki. In the first degree, the student learns what is needed to practice Reiki for themselves and loved ones.
- Something dark or forbidden
Reiki refers to the innate human capacity for self-strengthening and self-healing. It awakens this natural possibility.
- Something bad because it came from Japan and the East
Healing through touch and vital energy is universal and ancient. Reiki is simply the Japanese form, a more organized and widely known expression of energy healing.
- A technique for only a few: the elite, the rich, the highly spiritual, or the highly educated
Reiki is a universal technique for people of every social, educational, and economic background.
- A technique only for people with a talent for healing
Everyone can learn Reiki and apply it to themselves and others. No special knowledge or ability is required for the first degree, only the wish to learn.
- A strange or mysterious subject
The healing art and techniques of Reiki are not strange and there is no mystery or secret. Some material is introduced gradually so students can absorb it responsibly.
- Something that will make you lose touch with reality
Reiki clears personal energy and the mind. Many people report that it supports balance, grounding, calmness, and strength in daily life.
- Something created to mislead naive people or make money
Reiki works as a healing possibility and has helped many people. Like every field, some professionals may not act well, but that should not prevent anyone from experiencing the value of Reiki.
- Just a fashion
More and more people learn and practice Reiki. Even if it becomes popular, its value lies in accessibility, experience, and the benefits people receive from it.
- Something you can judge negatively because you met a Reiki teacher who did not suit you
Reiki is a healing art and cannot be judged by one practitioner or teacher. Its benefits should not be blocked by one person’s behavior or beliefs.
- Something you reject because someone told you so
You need to experience Reiki personally and draw your own conclusions. Reiki is experiential and works differently for each person.
- Something you can learn from a book or the internet
You need to participate in a first degree seminar in order to open, attune, and learn to transmit universal life energy through your hands.
- A vague theory or philosophy
Reiki is experiential and practical. It must be lived in order to be understood.
- Too good to be true
Life is full of good things that are true: water, air, light, nature, the sea, and life energy. Reiki is one of these gifts.
- A technique that will certainly cure a person
Reiki practitioners never promise a cure, only deep relaxation. Reiki works preventively and complementarily and does not replace medical or psychological care.
- Something you do only when tired, sad, or with a headache
Reiki has many applications. It can support serious situations alongside medical care and can also help with everyday tiredness, stress, anxiety, and headaches.
- An ability you lose if you do not practice
The ability to give Reiki improves with practice, but it is not lost. A person can practice again even after many years.
- Something to try once and reject because you feel nothing
Many people need gradual familiarization. Several sessions may be needed at first in order to feel the flow and warmth of the energy.
- A system with strict rules and “musts”
Reiki is free. Teachers mainly recommend practice. There are no rigid prohibitions or strict rules.
- Something everyone must do
Reiki may not suit everyone at every moment. It is simply available for whoever wishes to know it.
- Autosuggestion
Many people who were skeptical have confirmed results, warmth, flow, relaxation, and harmony. Research suggests Reiki is not merely psychological suggestion.
- Something rejected by modern science
Research on Reiki continues and results are encouraging.
- Something opposed to the scientific view of the world
Modern quantum views describe matter and reality as energy, vibration, and waves.
- A substitute
Reiki is not a substitute for medical or psychological diagnosis and treatment; it works complementarily.
- The solution to all problems
Moderation in all things. Reiki can be a clear and pure foundation, but life asks us to use all our intelligence and all the tools available to us.
I hope this text answered some questions and offered food for thought and a wish for experience. May the healing gifts of Reiki fill you with love, light, and life.
